Prostate Cryosurgery

Prostate cryosurgery also called prostate cryotherapy is a prostate cancer surgery to freeze the prostate twice. The prostate cancer cells are destroyed by turning the prostate into an ice ball and then thawing it twice. This is performed by urology specialists as a minimally invasive procedure under anesthesia so nothing is felt during the prostate cryosurgery. Urologic surgery is the most common way to treat prostate cancer (cancer de prostata). Radical prostatectomy (prostatectomia), robotic da Vinci prostatectomy, and prostate radiation are some of the other prostate surgery methods used to combat prostate cancer.

Prostate cryosurgery in most often performed as an outpatient prostate cancer surgery by Dr. Fernando Bianco. During the initial prostate exam you find out the results of your prostate specific antigen (PSA) level or number, a digital rectal exam (DRE), prostate biopsies, and any x-rays, MRI or CT scan that you may have had. Your urologist will discuss with you the extent of the prostate cancer and the different options that would be available to you according to your specific circumstance.
